"Baseball Pitchers: What Would
An Extra 5 mph (Or More)
On Your Fastball Do
For Your Game?"

Here’s What My Specialized Training Will Do For You:

  • An increase of 5 mph or more in your throwing velocity

  • Develop increased arm speed, a measure of your arm's ability to apply
force to the ball - a key training attribute for increasing throwing velocity

  • Increased strength in your throwing muscles, tendons & ligaments, making
    them more injury-resistant

  • Enhanced strength-endurance in these same structures = not just more
    innings, but more quality innings!

  • Highly effective training for any age or ability level

  Steve,

"Your program is working wonders for me - my arm feels sooo strong. I'm throwing 4 mph harder (94) and have never felt better. Thank you so much."

Aaron Thorne, minor league pitcher

Update, 8/30/07: "A scout from the Devil Rays had me at 97-98 mph."

Click Here For Hard Copy Booklets      Click Here For E-Booklets

Let's face it - the truth about what coaches and scouts are looking for in pitchers these days is VELOCITY. If you can retire hitters consistently, but if your fastball can't break a pane of glass, you won't progress to the next level. No one's interested.

It's a sad commentary on how the game works - 200+ game winner Jamie Moyer and sure Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, both highly successful MLB pitchers, wouldn't even get a look at a tryout camp, let alone a college scholarship, if they were starting over today as unknown young pitchers.

On their best day now, they're lucky to hit 86 mph. Much of the time, their fastball velocity is even less.

  Steve,

"I am a 20 year old junior college pitcher at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

"First off, I would like to thank you for publishing such a wonderful program. The fall of my freshmen year I was throwing 77-79 topping out pretty much at 80. This fall my velocity was great, being consistently clocked from 82-85 and hitting 88 a couple of times!"

Ryan Kealy, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD

"About a year or so ago I bought the program to condition the arm and increase throwing velocity and the strength and conditioning program.

"I read all the materials several times and formulated a program for a day to day workout for my son (17 years old). He was going into his junior year of high school at the time.  After working on the programs faithfully from September to January his whole game went to another level. He is one of the best players in the whole league now."

     Danny Moon, Redondo Beach, CA

Yet they keep on winning ballgames, earning millions in the process. The key difference between them and YOU is that they have a long track record of success as big-league pitchers - they know how to pitch. Hence, they get breaks you'll never get.

The bad news: coaches and scouts are not going to change.

The good news: you can train to improve your throwing velocity!

If this sounds interesting, read on, because I’m going to reveal some little-known secrets about developing an AWESOME throwing arm. Then, perhaps some day you'll send me a letter like this one from Andy Schon, a pitcher on Walsh University's baseball team:

"I followed your program for the full twelve weeks and increased my pitching velocity by 4-5 mph, consistently! Thanks for your great program."

Andy went on to report, "In my first collegiate start, I hit my spots and got stronger as the game progressed. I threw a complete game with 10 Ks and 3 hits allowed as we won, 2-1."

Click Here For Hard Copy Booklets     Click Here For E-Booklets

A rather impressive start to a promising college career, I'd say. And as great as Andy's experience has been, his is but one of many letters I receive from ball players around the world who are having similar success using my training programs.

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Steve Zawrotny and I'm a former college baseball player, coach, and current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).   I do private bat speed and pitching instruction in the Oklahoma City, OK area.

In addition,  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from BYU, providing me with a solid background in kinesiology, anatomy, and physiology.

I've been a keen observer and student over the years as to how the body functions in athletic competition - particularly baseball.  All of this has come in handy as I've worked with hundreds of players, from Little League through NCAA Division-1.

Hi Steve,

"Just wanted to tell you how successful your programs are for me and my son. We've been doing the hitting and throwing drills for three months now. He's a 5'4" 145 lbs 12yr old catcher/3rd baseman. His throws have gone up 10 mph across the corners.

"Playing on 90' bases this fall has been an easy adjustment and, thanks to your programs, next spring will be a blast . I highly recommend this for any child planning on moving up to 60'/90' baseball!  He's the best player on his team now and wants to meet you someday. Thanks for the help!"

Adam and James Smith, Hatfield, PA

I’ve been around baseball for over thirty years as a player and coach – I’ve even been an umpire. In the process I’ve talked to dozens and dozens of scouts and among the things they’ve told me is that few things get their attention like an awesome throwing arm.

It doesn’t matter what the position - on the mound, behind the plate, infield or outfield - a strong throwing arm gets you noticed. Of the “Five Tools,” a really great arm is the one scouts see the least.

Click Here For Hard Copy Booklets     Click Here For E-Booklets

But it doesn’t have to be this way…

A lot of kids run fast, and “good” hitters in high school and college are a dime-a-dozen. Heck, in baseball, everyone hits .300 or .400 these days, and for two big reasons: Metal Bats, and pitchers with

     MEDIOCRE ARMS!

Like I said, it doesn’t have to be this way. While it’s not easy to develop an awesome throwing arm, the process is actually fairly simple. What you’ll learn in this program has been proven both in a clinical setting and on the field. But before we go any further, you must understand this key point :

WEIGHT LIFTING DOES LITTLE TO NOTHING TO IMPROVE THROWING VELOCITY

If you want to lift weights, go ahead.  I write training programs for my private baseball and softball clients all the time, and I've written a separate baseball- specific strength and conditioning program that you can learn more about by scrolling further down this page.

Hi Steve,

"After doing this program, I am convinced that my son will have the strongest throwing arm on the team as a freshman this coming season.  The results have been little short of astounding."

 Doug S., St. Paul, MN

It will safely and effectively get you ready to play your game, and is designed to work in conjunction with this throwing workout.  Just be sure whatever program you use is designed by someone who knows both baseball  and biomechanics.

Click Here For Hard Copy Booklets     Click Here For E-Booklets

But don't expect your increased strength to do much for your throwing (or hitting, for that matter).

WHY?  Because to improve one's baseball skills, such as throwing or hitting, your workout must be closely related to the act of throwing or hitting.  Sport-specific strength is developed by movements with resistance or assistance that imitate the joint action of the skill - SPECIFIC RESISTANCE TRAINING.

This is one of the key reasons why weight lifting does very little to improve baseball/softball performance.  This "general" strength one develops with weight lifting contributes very little to actual  on-field success.  But even more important is the fact that

Weight lifting the wrong way too often leads  to arm injuries, and who needs that?  Remember, baseball is a POWER game, not a strength game, and strength and power, while related, are NOT the same thing.

"I use Steve's workouts as part of my daily training program and I have never had better results. His programs work and have helped my arm drastically. Within the last three months my velocity has gone from 84 mph up to 88 mph."

  Jason Anderson
  Former Anaheim Angels Organization pitcher

In the BASEBALL PROGRAM TO CONDITION ARM & INCREASE THROWING VELOCITY, 2nd EditionI show you what DOES work. This unique workout is based on two key conditioning principles – SPECIFIC RESISTANCE TRAINING and PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD.

These two principles MUST be employed in any program to increase throwing strength.  You’ll be given clear instructions for:

 - Reps and sets for each throwing workout – no guessing

 - Complete and thorough directions for all aspects of the program (it really is simple, but boy, does it work!)

 - The proper weight of balls to use – and yes, a regulation 5 oz. baseball is one of them

Click Here For Hard Copy Booklets     Click Here For E-Booklets

Steve,

"I implemented the weighted baseball program for our high school pitchers beginning March 25.  When I gunned them on May 5 (6 weeks later) the average gain was 3.5 mph.  We've had enough success that I convinced my college head coach to let me institute it with our college pitchers."

  Don Spore, Pitching/Catching Coach
  Wartburg College

So, if what you're looking for is a proven way to INCREASE YOUR ABILITY TO THROW HARDER, the BASEBALL PROGRAM TO  CONDITION ARM & INCREASE THROWING VELOCITY, 2nd Edition has been shown repeatedly, by both clinical research and on-field performance, to be the most effective, state-of-the-art approach to accomplishing this goal.

What if you were to take your high 70s fastball and get it into the low to mid 80s? YOU'D become an “overnight” star!   How might YOUR future change if your low-to-mid 80s fastball hit the high eighties, or the magical 90 mph barrier?

How much fun would it be to regularly and consistently throw out base runners who just aren’t used to seeing the kind of throwing arm YOU'LL possess? No easy scoring with YOU in the field!

How would YOU like to be the Pudge Rodriguez of your league, where no one dares to steal  when YOU'RE behind the plate?

If you haven’t experienced the thrill of changing the outcome of a game with your arm, you’re missing out on one of the best parts of playing!  With my guidance, you can accomplish these kinds of things, as have the many baseball players who have already used this program.  I'm giving you all the information you need, including this -

Special Bonus #1

No arm workout to build throwing strength would be complete without specific advice  and instruction on how to keep the Rotator Cuff healthy and strong. Too many careers have been cut short due to serious problems with this structure. As part of the BASEBALL PROGRAM TO  CONDITION ARM & INCREASE THROWING VELOCITY, 2nd Edition you’ll get detailed, clear information on just what you need to know to take care of this key structure.

Regardless of your position, you need this information!  Learn such things as:

  • Exactly what the Rotator Cuff is and what it does

  • Key differences between the Internal and External Rotators and how each should be trained

  • Shoulder pain and some of its causes

  • Specific Strength & Flexibility Exercises with reps and sets that will turn your Rotator Cuff into an armor-plated, injury-resistant band of muscle and tendon

Steve,

"When I started your program, I could barely lift my throwing arm up shoulder high. I'd had an MRI and was told I had it all - impingement, bursitis, arthritis. I had a lot of pain.

"After completing your training, not only am I pain free, I'm throwing harder than I was 15 years ago. I can't thank you enough!"

  Steve Flowers, Arlington, TX

Steve,

"I had two college kids that I trained use your program; they followed the routine to the letter. One was always around 75-76. He improved to 80-81. The other was, at best, 81-82 with max effort. He's up to 84-86 without nearly as much effort involved.

If you're like me, you want something that's simple that actually works!  My programs are being used with great success by THOUSANDS of players from around the world, from Little League through college and professional baseball - including adult recreational leagues.  Pretty much the whole spectrum of ball players.

The TRUTH About Developing REAL Hitting Power

In this report I'm going to reveal some things about bat speed and hitting power that you've likely never considered before.  These are concepts and techniques I personally mastered during my playing career and now teach to my players and students. The further you read, the more you'll learn about what it takes to become a consistent power hitter.

Think about the game and its demands - just how strong do you really have to be to play it well?  In baseball, the ball is 5 ounces and bats weigh approximately 30 oz.  Heck, a lot of young players swig cups of Pepsi and Mountain Dew that weigh more than that!

 FACT:

Baseball is a game of explosive POWER, not brute strength.  Picking up a 30 oz bat is a measure of strength.  Using it to blast a baseball 400+ feet is a measure of POWER.

 FACT:

If you can't hit a baseball very well and decide to begin a weight lifting program, you'll become a strong player who still can't hit a baseball!

 FACT:

If you want to increase a sport-specific skill like bat speed, it takes more than just lifting weights.  A lack of understanding of these principles is a shortcoming common to many "trainers" and their programs.

Think about the impact on your game as you incorporate the baseball-specific training principles contained in my training!

Lifting and getting big and strong does not necessarily equate to hitting more home runs.  If so, we'd be seeing guys like this in the major leagues!

Don't get me wrong - weight lifting has its place in the training and preparation of ALL ball players.  I design weight lifting programs for many of my baseball and softball clients.

I have also written a strength and conditioning program for baseball and softball players which you can learn more about by scrolling further down this page. Just be sure that whatever program you use, it is designed by someone who knows both baseball and biomechanics.

This chart shows an approximation of how bat speed translates into distance. Increases in your bat speed will yield the additional distance as shown:

               +7 mph/35 feet     +12 mph/60 feet    +15 mph/75 feet     +18 mph/90 feet

Your mileage may  vary, of course.  A number of factors will affect how far a batted ball travels, including weather, humidity, the type of ball and bat used, speed of the pitched ball, etc.  Still, these numbers will generally hold true and can give you a good idea of how this type of training can enhance your game.

Want to immediately improve your ability to make hard, consistent contact as a hitter?

TIP #1: Start taking ALL of your batting practice with a wood bat instead of metal.  Why?  Because the "sweet spot" on a metal bat is much larger than that of wood.  This is one key reason young players learn incorrect batting technique and develop bad habits - metal is much more forgiving if you don't hit a ball on the nose. Look at these pictures of this softball hitter making contact with a metal bat:

What do you think would have happened to this bat if it had been wood? It most likely would have broken, resulting in a weakly hit ball. But this hitter actually hit a home run on this pitch - seriously!  This is how metal bats create bad habits - this particular stroke produced a hit on what probably should have been an out.

Most hitters make this mistake all too often - mis-hitting the ball - resulting in poor contact, loss of power, and lowered batting average.

If you aspire to play professionally some day, take my advice - NOW -
and learn to hit with wood!

 FACT:

Practicing with wood will train you to refine your swing.  How? With wood, when you don't hit the ball on the sweet spot, the bat vibrates, causing PAIN in your hands. This immediate feedback allows you a way to adjust your swing, or else you keep experiencing PAIN! You may have felt this with your metal bat. Trust me, it's worse with wood. That's exactly why practicing with wood is so valuable.

Come game time, use your metal bat and watch your newly "honed in" swing boost your average and power just from this type of practice alone.

Have you noticed yet that the things we've discussed so far go against much of the "conventional wisdom," yet they make perfect sense? Well, keep on reading - it gets better!

TIP #2:  The next time you're in the on-deck circle, getting ready for your turn at bat, DO NOT use a heavy donut.  Why?  Because clinical research and on-field performance have repeatedly shown this device actually inhibits bat speed.

The same thing is true for the practice of taking dry-swings while holding several bats as well as using other heavily-weighted devices.

Click Here For Hard Copy Booklets

Click Here For E-Booklets    Prefer A Video?  Click Here

Yes, I know this goes against everything you've been taught and have been doing.  But if you've read this far, you're probably highly interested in improving your bat speed and hitting power.

You therefore need to be open to the idea that just because everyone is doing something doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea.  Incorrect ideas abound in baseball, as in most areas of life.

Why should you not swing a heavy implement while in the on-deck circle?

 FACT:

Because this technique fatigues the fast-twitch muscle fibers you will momentarily be using to hit with at the plate!

So if you shouldn't use a heavy donut or swing several bats at the same time, what should you do?

Get a copy of the Baseball Program to Increase Bat Speed & Hitting Power, 2nd Edition and find out!  If you do, here's what you'll get:

This program is jammed-pack FULL of easy-to-understand explanations, pictures and diagrams to help you increase your strength, flexibility, power, and conditioning. But before we start, there are a few things we need to get straight about baseball and softball.

Five Misunderstood Facts about
Baseball Training

Fact #1:  Increased muscle mass does not necessarily equate to more home runs, a faster fastball, or even increased running speed.

Fact #2:  The "alactic-anaerobic" energy system is the primary system used in playing baseball and softball, not the "aerobic" energy system.

Fact #3:  The average pro baseball player is about the same size as a pro-football receiver or defensive back. The average pro-ballplayer is:

6'0" tall, weighs 190 lbs., and has body fat of 9.4% if they're an infielder or 8.4% if they're an outfielder

The average pro pitcher is 6'1" tall, weighs 190 - 200 lbs., and has 12.3% body fat

The average pro catcher is 5'11" tall, weighs 190 - 200 lbs., and has 11.5% body fat

Fact #4:  Throwing, hitting, and running are short-burst, high velocity, ballistic movements that require tremendous physical force and power.

Fact #5:  To improve your hitting, throwing, or running use training exercises and drills that closely relate to the specific conditioning demands of these particular activities.

10 Point Checklist to Determine the Effectiveness and Safety of Your Year-Round Strength & Conditioning Program

Do You Make These Mistakes When You Train?

  1.  Dedicating more than 10-15 minutes per session on "aerobic" or cardiovascular fitness with exercises like long distance running or biking

  2.  A weight lifting regimen that emphasizes building bulk - programs more suitable for body-building or football, like those found in most mainstream fitness magazines

  3.  Lacks stretching exercises to promote muscle elongation and flexibility

  4.  A lack of power development exercises, such as Plyometrics -- an effective training method that conditions you to combine maximal speed and strength to improve your performance

  5.  Under use of sprint/interval training

  6.  Doesn't explain or guide you through the Four Phases of Strength Training

  7.  Includes exercises that place your shoulder in positions that can weaken or damage this joint

  8.  You are experiencing excessive pain after workouts

  9.  Doesn't fully explain or illustrate how to properly perform lifts or drills

 10.  Lacks supervision from or access to an experienced strength and conditioning specialist with experience in baseball and softball to monitor your progress

If you have checked off  3 of these items you should have your training program redesigned by a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

These training flaws could lead to a potentially serious injury and sideline
you indefinitely.

For over thirty years I have been involved with baseball/softball as an athlete, coach, and fitness specialist. My training programs have a reputation for safely improving player performance, reducing the risk of injury, and being affordable.

Why Players, Parents, and Coaches Trust
Steve Zawrotny to Get Them in Peak Playing Condition

  1. His training is specifically designed for ball players. Baseball is a game of short-burst activities or skills like hitting, throwing, or running. Each requires the use of tremendous physical force--high velocity ballistic movements--and a great deal of power, agility, flexibility, and quickness. regardless of your age or ability level.

  2. While many trainers and training programs are more into building mass or a chiseled, body-builder look, Steve's program focuses on developing power, agility, flexibility, and quickness, all of which you need if you want to improve where it counts the most, on the field!

  3. He's a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).   Would you seek legal advice from a lawyer who didn't pass the Bar, or send your child for medical care to someone who wasn't a doctor? Of course not, these would be your minimum requirements. The same is true with NSCA certification.

  4. The NSCA is the pre-eminent strength and conditioning authority in the world. Requirements for certification include a bachelor's or master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in exercise sciences, nutrition, program design, exercise techniques, organization and administration, testing and evaluation. Maintaining certification requires continuing education and adherence to the NSCA code of ethics.

  5. He provides on-line supervision, training advice and guidance with each program. When you purchase one of Steve's programs or register for personalized on-line instruction you get easy, on-line access to him. You'll receive prompt and serious attention within 24 hours. More importantly, Steve takes the time to understand what makes your situation special. You'll never get patronizing remarks or jargon. He always explains what he's doing and why.

  6. Programs are easy to follow, based on authoritative sources, and are affordable. Only reputable, long standing research and principles based on published scientific studies, pertinent statements from relevant professional associations and organizations, and consensus views of other experts and professional trainers are used to develop his programs. Each program is complete with illustrations, concise, and designed so you can start your training immediately. He also provides basic on-line support with printed programs and more in-depth, one-on-one support with his personal training programs.

  7. He stands behind his programs. Although there are many training variables beyond Steve's control, such as your one's skill level, work ethic, state of health, genetics, etc, that prevent him from being able to guarantee your outcome, Steve does guarantee your satisfaction. He lets you use your training program for a complete training cycle and if for some reason you're not satisfied, you can return the program and he'll refund your money.

The Only Year-round Training Program That Takes You Through the Four Phases of Strength Training

If you don't have access to a certified trainer who specializes in baseball or softball, give Baseball Strength and Conditioning a try risk free for 12 weeks. I specifically designed this year-round program for baseball players to help them safely develop the kind of power, flexibility and quickness most players only dream of.

The program is unique in that it is Periodized for the Four Phases of Strength Training.  This keeps your workouts interesting and challenging while allowing you to continue making progress.

Phase 1:  The first 6 weeks or the start-up period (hypertrophy phase) eases you into your program by using only 50 to 75% of the maximum weight you can lift for each exercise.

Phase 2: Usually begins 6 weeks into your training program is the strength building phase. In this phase we’ll perform each exercise using 80-90% of your maximum weight.

Phase 3: Begins after about 12 weeks of training; this is the power building phase and requires you to use about 85-95% of your maximum weight for each exercise.

Phase 4: The in-season or maintenance phase, helps you keep your gains and stay healthy all season long.

And, to ensure your training is safe and effective, you're given the exact number of sets, repetitions, the percentage of your 1 repetition maximum (RM) weight to use, and the length of your rest periods for each workout and each training phase.
