Improve Control, Throw
More Strikes in 14
Days It's almost a cliché - the pitcher with great stuff who can't throw strikes. Some guys overcome this obstacle and continue on to a fine career. Many do not. In baseball circles, there is much talk about the necessity of good control. To reach the highest levels of this game, however, COMMAND of at least two pitches is required - three would be better. Having command of a pitch means you can throw it in the strike zone in any situation or count. But how do pitchers and coaches actually train to accomplish this key objective?
Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Steve Zawrotny. After 30 plus years as a player and coach, from Little League through NCAA D-1 and pro baseball, I've seen a lot. I'm now an author of four baseball training booklets, inventor of several unique training products, and a baseball pitching instructor and training consultant in Oklahoma City, OK. I've presented my training methods to coaches in clinics across the US and in Europe. From my own playing days, I remember what it's like to be on the hill, trying hard to find the plate and not being able to do so. And I know that few things are more frustrating for a coach than watching guys struggle in a game, seemingly incapable of throwing a strike. Want To Be A
GREAT Pitcher?
Seems like a lot, doesn't it? That's why there are not a lot of MLB pitchers in the world, and those that make it to the big leagues command millions in salary. If you were to ask any of these pitchers (as I have), which of the above listed factors is most important, all of them would answer "pitch location" as the first skill to master. The rest of the list is easier (note I didn't say easy!) to accomplish. No matter how good your "stuff" is, if you can't put it over the plate, you simply won't advance far in this game. So here's a useful tip I'll pass on to you right here:
"The
Better Your Location Is, This is not to suggest that you don't need to work on developing good "stuff." It simply means that you can get away with not having overwhelming velocity, as one example. Good velocity helps, of course, but it is not the key to pitching success. When you're trying to jam a hitter, it is more important for that pitch to be properly located than it is for it to be of high velocity. Location is what makes a pitcher with average stuff a winner.
I get paid by the hour as a pitching instructor and consultant, and I receive a great deal of enjoyment helping players improve their pitching skills. Since there's just one of me, I've compiled this booklet to help as many pitchers as possible. This way, you can receive the same highly effective techniques and methods I've been teaching my private students for years in
